Simplebooks Launches Sri Lanka’s First AI-Powered Tax Agent

Simplebooks has launched Sri Lanka’s first AI-powered tax agent, designed to make tax filing faster, simpler, and smarter for both individuals and businesses.

Available on WhatsApp, Around the Clock

The AI assistant is available 24/7 on WhatsApp via +94 72 447 0173.

Through that single chat, users can ask tax-related questions, calculate tax rates, and get step-by-step guidance through the process of filing their tax returns.

Building the service on WhatsApp is a practical choice. It is already the messaging app most people use daily, which means there is no new app to download and no account setup to work through before getting an answer.

Trained on Sri Lankan Tax Law

The Simplebooks Taxbot is currently in its beta phase and has been trained extensively on Sri Lankan tax laws.

That local training matters. General-purpose AI tools can explain tax concepts in broad terms, but they often fall short on the specific rules, rates, and deadlines that apply in a particular country.

Upcoming updates will expand what the bot can do. Planned features include the ability to read bills, process documents, and provide real-time alerts on changes to tax regulations.

Early Numbers

The response so far suggests there is real demand for this kind of tool.

Since its soft launch, the WhatsApp-based agent has processed over 45,000 messages in under four weeks. In that time, it has helped more than 200 users complete tax computations and begin the filing process.

For a product still in beta, that is a strong early signal — particularly the message volume, which points to users returning with follow-up questions rather than trying it once and leaving.

Why It Matters

Tax compliance is one of the more difficult areas for individuals, freelancers, and small business owners to navigate. The rules change, the forms are unfamiliar, and professional advice is not always affordable for smaller operations.

A tool that answers questions instantly, at any hour, lowers that barrier considerably.

A Step Forward

The Simplebooks AI Tax Agent marks a major step toward making tax compliance in Sri Lanka easier, clearer, and more accessible for all.

For the startup Sri Lanka community, it is also a good example of AI being applied to a specific local problem rather than a general one — which is often where these tools prove most useful.
