Built in Sri Lanka, Tested in Sri Lanka: The Story of D Fusion

In a startup Sri Lanka ecosystem dominated by software and services, D Fusion is a reminder that manufacturing still has room to grow. Founded in 2009 by Nicolle Foenander, the company set out to give local athletes an alternative to expensive imported gear — sporting equipment made here, priced for the market it serves.

Nearly two decades on, D Fusion has become the parent brand behind three distinct labels, each built for a different corner of the field.

Three brands, three disciplines

Foenander Sports has become a familiar name among schools, clubs and cricketers, supplying equipment built specifically for Sri Lankan playing conditions.

Titans covers combat sports, producing professional-grade gear for boxing, MMA, kickboxing and taekwondo — disciplines where local athletes have historically had few domestic supply options.

FS PRO sits at the premium end, developing cricket equipment shaped by performance testing, product innovation and direct player feedback.

The structure allows each brand to speak to its own athletes rather than forcing one catalogue to serve every sport.

Quality First, Player First, Nation First

Foenander’s leadership rests on three stated principles, and the middle one does most of the work. Products are developed with input from coaches and athletes, then tested in local conditions — humidity, pitch behaviour and heat that imported equipment is rarely designed around.

That feedback loop is the practical argument for buying local. A manufacturer based where the sport is played can iterate on real complaints from real players in a season rather than a product cycle.

Building more than equipment

The company’s ambitions extend past its catalogue. By keeping production local, D Fusion supports domestic employment and strengthens a supply chain that has long leaked value overseas. Every bat or glove made here is money that stays in the sporting economy rather than leaving it.

That positioning — a credible homegrown alternative to established international brands — is difficult to build and harder to sustain, requiring consistency across every product line at once.

Looking outward

The next goal is export. D Fusion intends to expand beyond Sri Lanka and establish itself internationally as a premium sports manufacturer.

It is an ambitious target in a category dominated by global incumbents. But a brand that has spent seventeen years earning trust at home starts from a stronger position than most.

Sri Lanka has launched this year’s petroleum exploration licensing round for the Mannar Basin, with the official launch taking place on August 25 at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation headquarters. Organised by the Petroleum Development Authority of Sri Lanka, the event was held under the patronage of Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka and Labour Minister and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha. Under the latest licensing round, four exploration blocks covering approximately 34,000 square kilometres in the Mannar Basin will be offered to international energy companies for further exploration. The Ministry said previous exploration activities in the basin had confirmed the presence of petroleum and natural gas, including discoveries of natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons. Petroleum Development Authority Director General Neil de Silva said the basin’s largely unexplored areas present significant opportunities for international investors to undertake further exploration using modern geological surveying methods and advanced technologies. He added that prospective companies would also have access to geological information on the Mannar Basin held by the Authority. According to de Silva, existing geological data suggests that the Mannar Basin could hold around 2 billion barrels of petroleum and 9 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, with the potential for these resources to be commercially recovered through drilling.
