The University of Colombo has retained its position as the top-ranked university in Sri Lanka in the latest Webometrics Ranking of Universities.
On the global stage, the University is placed 1,745th among more than 32,000 higher education institutions (HEIs) across over 200 countries.
The Webometrics Ranking assesses universities worldwide based on three key indicators: Visibility (50%), which measures the number of external networks linking to a university’s domain; Excellence (40%), which is determined by publications ranked among the top 10% most cited papers across 27 disciplines between 2021-2025; and Openness (10%), which evaluates citations received by institutions with a registered Research Organization Registry (ROR) identifier.
