SLTB to Add 600 New Buses to Its Fleet Before the End of the Year

The Ministry of Transport and Highways has revealed plans to bring in 600 buses for the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) fleet in order to increase passenger capacity on both expressways and regular road networks before the end of the year.

The import will consist of 200 luxury coaches designated for expressway operations and 400 standard buses for normal routes, according to the ministry. The shipment is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka by December.

In a separate update, the ministry stated that 104 newly acquired “metro” buses have already been dispatched and are due to arrive in the country by 15 August. Officials added that these buses will be equipped with card-based fare collection systems and, once installation and testing are completed, will be deployed for service before 20 September.
