The Galle Startup Raising the Bar for Car Detailing in Sri Lanka

Sachila Chathnuka, a young entrepreneur from Galle, has made a remarkable impact on Sri Lanka’s car care industry with his brand ShineMode — a mobile detailing service that brings next-level car care right to the customer’s doorstep.

Not Your Average Car Wash

ShineMode is far from ordinary. Sachila has elevated detailing to a higher standard by using world-renowned brands, and he has even introduced some of them to Sri Lanka through his services. These include Koch Chemie, Infinity Wax, Duel Auto Care, and more.

His commitment to excellence has set a new benchmark for quality and results in the local industry. Rather than competing on speed or price, ShineMode built its reputation on the standard of the finished work.

Spotting a Gap in the Market

Mobile detailing is not new globally. What Sachila did was identify a major gap in Sri Lanka and fill it with genuine expertise, creativity, and passion.

That is a familiar pattern in the startup Sri Lanka space — taking a proven model from overseas and adapting it properly for the local market, rather than copying it without understanding the customer.

Letting the Work Speak

One of the smartest parts of the business has been how Sachila shows what he does. Through ASMR and POV-style detailing videos, he allows anyone to witness ShineMode’s quality firsthand. Every clip speaks louder than words.

For a service business, this kind of content does double duty. It attracts an audience, and at the same time it proves the standard of work in a way that no advertisement really can.

Changing How People Value Quality

At a time when most people settled for quick car washes, Sachila proved that quality work still holds more value than price. That is a difficult argument to win in any market, and harder still in one where customers are used to paying very little for a basic wash.

His journey has inspired a new wave of Sri Lankans to pursue perfection and appreciate real detailing. It has also motivated a new generation of detailers to follow the same path.

For a startup built around a single service, that is a real achievement. ShineMode did not just create a business — it helped change how an entire industry and its customers think about what good work is worth.

Sri Lanka has launched this year’s petroleum exploration licensing round for the Mannar Basin, with the official launch taking place on August 25 at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation headquarters. Organised by the Petroleum Development Authority of Sri Lanka, the event was held under the patronage of Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka and Labour Minister and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha. Under the latest licensing round, four exploration blocks covering approximately 34,000 square kilometres in the Mannar Basin will be offered to international energy companies for further exploration. The Ministry said previous exploration activities in the basin had confirmed the presence of petroleum and natural gas, including discoveries of natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons. Petroleum Development Authority Director General Neil de Silva said the basin’s largely unexplored areas present significant opportunities for international investors to undertake further exploration using modern geological surveying methods and advanced technologies. He added that prospective companies would also have access to geological information on the Mannar Basin held by the Authority. According to de Silva, existing geological data suggests that the Mannar Basin could hold around 2 billion barrels of petroleum and 9 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, with the potential for these resources to be commercially recovered through drilling.
