Sri Lanka has been named the world’s top island destination to visit in 2026, according to the latest rankings published by international travel magazine Big 7 Travel.

The country claimed the number one position in the “50 Best Islands to Visit” list. The publication credited Sri Lanka’s 833-mile coastline, scenic central highlands, internationally renowned tea plantations, rich cultural heritage, and exceptional biodiversity as the main reasons for its top ranking.

The report also highlighted that famous attractions, including Yala National Park and Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, made a significant contribution to Sri Lanka securing the number one spot.

Adding to the country’s tourism achievements, Unawatuna Beach was placed 26th in the world’s 50 Best Beaches, according to the report.
