Sri Lanka Breaks All-Time Tourist Arrival Record, Surpasses 2018 High

Sri Lanka has officially welcomed its 2,333,797th tourist in 2025, exceeding the previous all-time high of 2,333,796 arrivals recorded in 2018.
In a statement issued today (29 Dec), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the milestone as “a defining moment in the nation’s tourism journey, reflecting resilience and renewed global confidence in Sri Lanka as a leading travel destination.”
The significance of this achievement is underscored by past figures. Sri Lanka reached a record 2,333,796 tourist arrivals in 2018, while 2,053,465 tourists visited the country in 2024.
Exceeding these numbers in 2025 highlights not only a strong recovery but also sustained growth, reinforcing Sri Lanka’s position as a resilient and competitive destination in South Asia.

Tourism remains a vital pillar of Sri Lanka’s economy, making a major contribution to foreign exchange revenue, job creation, and cultural interaction.

The ministry stated that achieving this landmark despite challenges such as the Ditwa Cyclone disaster demonstrates the resilience and solidarity of the tourism industry and its stakeholders.

At a press briefing at Bandaranaike International Airport, Sri Lanka Tourism honored Mr. Felix Beslin Pereira, Mrs. Reena Fernandez, and Ms. Ann Cristina Pereira-a family from Thiruvananthapuram, India-who arrived on Sri Lankan Airlines flight UL 162 as the symbolic 2,333,797th visitors of the year.

According to the ministry, their arrival signifies not just a personal milestone, but also a shared achievement for the country as a whole.
