MediMan: The Jaffna-Born Startup Building Sri Lanka’s First Telehealth Super-App

Meet Sugeevan Vsg, Founder and CEO of MediMan — a digital healthcare platform fully designed, engineered, and built here in Sri Lanka.

The vision behind it is ambitious: to become the country’s first globally scaling telehealth super-app.

Connecting Patients With Doctors, Anywhere

MediMan connects patients with trusted doctors anytime and anywhere, both locally and internationally.

With healthcare access challenges rising, particularly for rural communities and for Sri Lankan families living abroad, the platform is already proving to be a life-changing solution.

Those two groups face different versions of the same problem. Patients in rural areas often live far from specialist care, while families overseas struggle to arrange or oversee treatment for relatives back home. A platform that works across borders addresses both at once.

Built From the Ground Up

The story behind MediMan is as notable as the product itself.

Sugeevan comes from Jaffna, with no major background or influence behind him. He invested his entire life’s savings, his time, and every bit of skill he had to build something meaningful for his people.

That is a considerable risk to take, and it speaks to how strongly he believed in the problem he was solving.

Growth Beyond Expectations

Today, MediMan has grown into a platform far beyond what anyone expected could emerge from the North.

It now stands on the edge of becoming a future Sri Lankan unicorn with global expansion potential — a rare position for any company built entirely with local engineering and local funding.

For the startup Sri Lanka community, that matters for reasons beyond the company itself. It shows that world-class products can be built outside Colombo, without existing networks or large capital behind them.

More Than an App

MediMan is more than an app. It is a national mission to connect every Sri Lankan with the right doctor at the right time, without barriers.

Why It Matters

Access to healthcare is not simply about the number of doctors in the country. It is about whether a patient can reach the right one, at the moment they need to, from where they happen to be.

MediMan is built around that gap — and its origins in Jaffna make the achievement more significant, not less.

  • Sri Lanka has launched this year’s petroleum exploration licensing round for the Mannar Basin, with the official launch taking place on August 25 at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation headquarters. Organised by the Petroleum Development Authority of Sri Lanka, the event was held under the patronage of Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka and Labour Minister and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha. Under the latest licensing round, four exploration blocks covering approximately 34,000 square kilometres in the Mannar Basin will be offered to international energy companies for further exploration. The Ministry said previous exploration activities in the basin had confirmed the presence of petroleum and natural gas, including discoveries of natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons. Petroleum Development Authority Director General Neil de Silva said the basin’s largely unexplored areas present significant opportunities for international investors to undertake further exploration using modern geological surveying methods and advanced technologies. He added that prospective companies would also have access to geological information on the Mannar Basin held by the Authority. According to de Silva, existing geological data suggests that the Mannar Basin could hold around 2 billion barrels of petroleum and 9 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, with the potential for these resources to be commercially recovered through drilling.
